Pray for Simon

I wanted to ask you all to pray for a man named Simon. We met him on Wednesday when we were going door to door passing out the invitations to the VBS in the neighborhood. Simon was at home watching his grandchildren when we knocked on his door. We told him we were from Calvary Chapel and that we were going door to door to invite children to our VBS and to ask if they had any prayer needs. I asked him if he was a Christian and he said yes. He said that he goes to the Catholic church. I asked him if he died today if he would go to heaven or hell. He said that he did not know but hoped he would go to heaven. We shared the good news of the Gospel with him and told him that he didn’t have to wonder, that if he asked Jesus into his heart to be his Lord and savior that he would be saved. We told him that it was not about being Catholic or Protestant but about having a relationship with Jesus. He listened intently but said he would have to think about it. We asked him if he had a bible and he said that some Jehovah’s Witnesses had given him a bible but he didn’t know if it was a good one or not. We told him it wasn’t and that we would be happy to give him a new one. He said that he would bring his grandchildren to the VBS on Saturday and would think about everything we said. We prayed that we would see him and lo and behold he showed up this afternoon with his grandchildren. I gave him a bible and asked him if he had thought about what we said. He said he had thought a lot about it and had been walking the streets praying but was not sure that God heard him. He said he had been praying all the prayers he had been taught to say and tried to read the bible he had been given by the JW’s but could not understand it. I told him that he first needed to pray to ask Jesus into his heart and that then the Holy Spirit would open up God’s word to him. I asked him if he wanted to ask Jesus into his heart right now and he said yes that he was ready. He did not want to do it in the room full of kids so we walked across the street to church where he prayed to ask Jesus into his heart! Praise the Lord! Thank you all for praying for our team and the moving of God’s spirit as we minister. Please don’t stop. We all really feel your prayers and God is answering in such a powerful way.

Tomorrow we head to Guatemala so pray for God’s traveling mercies.

God bless you all.

Pastor Gary
