It Seems As Though Birth Pangs Are Beginning To Happen

We have been “pregnant” for a while now and it seems as though the birth pangs are beginning to happen. Now don’t get too excited, we are not literally pregnant😉. Rather, we are speaking about this new church that will be born in the near future. We are now entering into our ninth month of living in the city of Hamburg and God has truly been at work in us and in His people. For those of you who have children, you know what it is like when it is getting closer to the delivery date. There is an excitement that is building up within you and things start coming together in your house so that you are prepared to bring your baby into this world. Part of that process is that you begin to have birth pangs. Things begin to heat up and more action begins to take place. This can definitely summarize this past month for us.

God is at work in Northern and Eastern Germany

Towards the end of the month of July, we as a family, made a trip to Leipzig, Germany. We joined the other Northern and Eastern Calvary Chapel pastors and their families for a mini two-day conference. Pastor Bill Galatin (CC Fingerlakes, NY) and Pastor Peter Will (CC Hannover) were there to spend time with us, encourage us, and pray with us. How important it was for us to be at this mini-conference and to get further connected with the other co-laborers in our part of Germany. It is our prayer that the Lord would continue to strengthen these relationships and that He would continue to unite our hearts to reach Northern and Eastern Germany.

Making Disciples, One at a Time

From April 19-28, 2013, we hosted a small team of students from the Calvary Chapel European Bible College in Vajta, Hungary. Their mission was to come and pray with us through the streets of Hamburg, to help lay a foundation through prayer for a future church plant. The Lord blessed the time in many different ways- encouraging us, speaking prophetically, and petitioning our God for great things that we continually hope in Him for.
It was exactly in this time, that unbeknownst to us, God was working in a young American woman, bringing her to faith in Christ. Her cousin back home had been faithfully praying for her and sharing the Lord with her for years when finally she gave Jesus her heart. It was shortly afterward we got in contact with her, met up with her, and heard her story. She shared how she was at the bottom and there was nowhere else to look, except to look up to Jesus. She is hungry to learn more about living a life of faith, and to learn more about the Bible. She and I (Rebecca) are meeting every week and studying the book of John. We are both seeing God’s word come alive and seeing Jesus’ words transform us. We are pointing out how the religiosity of then and now is totally opposite God’s heart for His people. She is getting to know her Savior as the Bread of Life, the Good Shepherd, the Resurrection and the Life, the Vine, and so on. God is working in her heart and it is a privilege to see it!
Is it a coincidence that this young woman came to give her heart to Christ in the same time that 6 young adults were praying through the streets? I don’t think so! I believe God’s timing is perfect and that He heard every prayer as they prayed for people to come to the end of themselves and look to the Lord. God saw this young woman and her emptiness, sent this team to wage warfare against the spiritual hosts of wickedness; He saved her and led us to her. His fingerprints are all over it! Glory to God!

We are just over two weeks away from our second Prayer Tour taking place here in Hamburg from August 15-18, 2013. We have been working together as a team to get things ready and are continuing to seek Him in each step that we take. We really sense the Lord is laying it on our hearts to be ready and prepared to communicate to the people in this city His heart and vision for Hamburg. Janos and Anja have been meeting with the team of people that are coming from Calvary Chapel Siegen. There are around 35 people that will be coming. As you can imagine, the warfare has definitely stepped up for many of the team members. We would ask that you would please be praying fervently for each of us as we make the final preparations for the Prayer Tour. If you are not aware, we have been making Prayer Tour Prayer Point videos and have been posting them up on Twitter, FaceBook, our blog, and now our new church website! We would encourage you to spend the time to go through these short videos to help you as you engage in prayer. Click here to get to the videos!
God bless you!
Love in Christ,
