“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”Ephesians 4:1-6
Today we are leaving for Uganda and this verse is the one the Lord has given me for this trip. He has been reminding me of it over and over again. Paul in this verse beseeches us. That means he urges us strongly, fervently! To do what? To walk worthy of the calling to which we were called!
What have we been called to? To follow the Lord, to represent the Lord, for me, to take this trip to Uganda. Now, my responsibility is to walk worthy of it!
What does it mean to walk worthy of our calling? I’ve been thinking and praying through this and the Lord revealed to me specifically that it is such a responsibility the Lord has given this team, in calling us to Uganda. We will be sharing the gospel with people who have never heard it, we will be an example of what Christianity is. What is the difference between being a Christian and not being a Christian? We will be the ones showing the people of Uganda this. May we represent the Lord, to the people, properly!
Next, how are we to walk? In lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Romans 12:18 “If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.” You hear that, As much it depends on you, on me, live peaceable with ALL men! Bear with one another in love! I’m sure there will be times on this trip where I will or at least be tempted to lose my patience, but God calls us to keep the unity! We need to represent the character of Jesus properly!
There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
Jesus, the Father and the Holy Spirit are all one-they are unified. We must be also. What common ground do we have? We are different races. We have different personalities. How can we possibly be unified? Because we have “One Lord … Who is above all and …in [us] all.”
May we be a representation of God in unity, in love, in word, and in action!
