Baton Rouge Update 4

It is October 9 Sunday morning we piled in our cars to go to church at Calvary Christian fellowship in Baton Rouge Louisiana. Pastor Paul gave a beautiful message on the Lord’s Day of Rest. The Lord made us to need that seventh day to physically rest so our bodies could restore themselves. When we don’t apply that command, we get sick, diseased and depressed. Because we are here to do a lot of labor and work and help build relationships and heal it is extremely important that we listen to God and Rest in Him. A beautiful song that captured my heart song by Joey their worship leader and goes like this, it’s called You are Here

Let our praise be Your welcome
Let our songs be a sign
We are here for You, we are here for You
Let Your breath come from heaven
Fill our hearts with Your life
We are here for You, we are here for You
To You our hearts are open
Nothing here is hidden
You are our one desire
You alone are holy
Only You are worthy
God, let Your fire fall down
Let our shout be Your anthem
Your renown fill the skies
We are here for You, we are here for You
Let Your Word move in power
Let what’s dead come to life
We are here for You, we are here for You
To You our hearts are open
Nothing here is hidden
You are our one desire
You alone are holy
Only You are worthy
God, let Your fire fall down
To You our hearts are open
Nothing here is hidden
You are our one desire
You alone are holy
Let our praise be Your welcome
Let our songs be a sign
We are here for You, we are here for You
Let Your breath come from heaven
Fill our hearts with Your life
We are here for You, we are here for You
To You our hearts are open
Nothing here is hidden
You are our one desire
You alone are holy
Only You are worthy
God, let Your fire fall down
Let our shout be Your anthem
Your renown fill the skies
We are here for You, we are here for You
Let Your Word move in power
Let what’s dead come to life
We are here for You, we are here for You
To You our hearts are open
Nothing here is hidden
You are our one desire
You alone are holy
Only You are worthy
God, let Your fire fall down
To You our hearts are open
Nothing here is hidden
You are our one desire
You alone are holy

This song touched my heart. You are my one desire and Let your fire fall down. This will be the theme of this trip. This trip’s purpose is to share Gods amazing message of hope and love while rebuilding and restoring what had been destroyed by the floods. We met with some of the people from other churches and organizations.
After church, we came back to our compound to prepare for our workday. We gathered together all our tools and changed our clothes. We piled into our cars to caravan to have lunch. After lunch, we set off to the home we were going to be working on. Some of us are very inexperienced and have never done any hard demolition before, like me for example.
When we arrive there we were introduced to Jim, Tammy and their lovely daughter Skyler. Their house had had some water damage from a nearby pond that had back filled up as well as a tributary that flooded over. Our task was to remove and demo drywall and insulation. I don’t mind getting dirty and working hard and I love to learn new things. It was really good for me to learn how to use tools that I have never touched and to be working along side people from our church. I had great opportunity to fellowship with the owners who were very appreciative and thankful for our help. It was good to hug each other and share our lives with people that were strangers and later became friends at the end of the day. That is truly what God wants for us.
After we left our home we piled in our cars came back to a wonderful dinner that was prepared for us by Gary, Carol and Angel. We had chili and cornbread with biscuits and salad it was delicious. The day was filled with lots of surprises. I learned how to work tools I have never used and I felt good about doing God’s work. If our heart is to love the Lord and this is our one desire, He will show what the needs are of others. I look forward to what tomorrow will provide. Pray for us to share the faith by breaking down the walls and rebuilding peoples hearts. Carol Denham

  1. Blessed the team got to fellowship with Pastor Paul, last week he was declared cancer free after a 2-3 year trial that was very rough.

  2. Hi Carol, thank you for your thoughts and insight on our Sunday service message. Yes I believe everyone loved the worship song, ‘You are here’. God is here in the midst of our trials and tribulation. God is here in the midst of our joys and victories!
