Isaiah 61:1-3 (NKJV) 1 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD [is] upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to [those who are] bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, 3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.”
Today we had the opportunity to share with police spouses from three police departments here in Baton Rouge. These departments have experienced much in the way of loss and sufferings in the last two years. July 17th was the second anniversary of the sniper shootings of six Baton Rouge area police officers. In that shooting 3 officers were killed and three wounded.
A week later most of the city was under water after a torrential rain storm. Since that time two more officers have been gunned down. Today one of the widows and one of the wives of the wounded sheriffs deputies were here along with many others. The messages shared were messages of hope and trust in the Lord as well as encouragement to love their police spouses. We told them that the Lord had seen their tears in the night and that he would walk them through the fire. We told them that they were not alone if they knew Jesus as their Lord and savior and that He alone was the way, the truth and the life.
Isaiah 43:2 (NKJV) When you pass through the waters, I [will be] with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
