Baton Rouge (BTR) Observation
“but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world
to shame the things which are strong,” 1 Cor 1:27
I thought of that Scripture verse during our BTR ministry. Our team arrived during a heatwave with daily temperatures close to 100 deg and humid. Some team members felt some aches and pains but we pressed on!
I see that people appreciated us being there to help in anyway we can. At the Police Spouses Luncheon, I was blessed to have attendees tell me that they remembered meeting me from last year. One person even said, ‘I remembered you sat across from me at the table last year.’ I was especially blessed to reconnect with people I have met on my previous 2 trips.
I saw people who were hurting emotionally and/or physically. People have sought help through spiritual means like going to a church like Healing Place Church. That’s why Healing Place Church is so popular and growing with satellite campuses in Denham Springs. I thought of Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be who go in there: Because narrow is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads unto life, and few there be that find it.” Not to be judgmental, most people claiming to be Christians reminded me of 2 Tim 3:5, “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”
I would say that our team turned away by not buying into their form of godliness and hopefully, we have presented to them a true form of godliness.
It seems like we were ‘on the go’ everyday. We were to be ready early and turned in late. I think for what we had to do on this trip, it was the right people and the right number of people.
I believe we have learned a little more about the people we ministered to and a little more about ourselves.
In His Service.
